Grigor Dimitrov Wins the Sofia Open

Grigor Dimitrov, the Australia Open finalist, managed to win the Sofia Open and claimed his second title for this year, in spite of David Goffin’s spirited comeback. The Bulgarian athlete quickly raced to an amazing 5-0 lead during the second set, after winning the first one with 7-5. However, he was broken two times by the Belgian number 2 seed. Dimitrov kept his mental stability and eventually managed to win the ATP event in his homeland 7-5, 6-4 which extended his winning run over Goffin at 3-0. Even though the year has just begun, this is Dimitrov’s second title for 2017 after he managed to win the Brisbane International last month and he surely caught the eyes of the spectators as he advanced to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. After his victory, Grigor Dimitrov told how proud he was to play in front of his Bulgarian fans. He told ATP that this is his most prestigious title and winning at home is a tremendous success for him. He added that he would treasure this title for the rest of his life as it is something amazing about him. Dimitrov is currently number 13 in the world, and he praised Goffin as well. He stated that David Goffin is an incredible player and that he is one of the toughest competitors he has ever played against. Grigor Dimitrov stated that he is very ambitious for the future as he wants to reach the ATP finals in London.
