Manchester United’s current captain, Wayne Rooney has confirmed that he wants to stay at Old Trafford. The English star who is now 31, has been linked quite a lot with a move to the Chinese Super League during the last several weeks. The Chinese clubs’ transfer window is open until the 28th of February, but Rooney has completely ruled out a move, and he even insisted that he is entirely focused on his team’s hunt for silverware during this season.
The club released a statement on their twitter, in which Rooney said that despite the interest that has been shown from several other clubs, for which he is grateful, the captain wants to end the recent speculations, and he stated that he is certainly staying at Manchester United.
After nearly 13 seasons with the club, the kid wonder became United’s top goal scorer of all times at the start of this year by surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s collection of 249 goals with a last minute free-kick versus Stoke City back in January.
Manchester United are still fighting on all four fronts during this season. Moreover, to add to both their EFL Cup and the Europa League campaigns, they have to continue fighting for a top 4 finish in the Premier League. Not to mention that they also have reached the quarter-final stages of the Football Association Cup.
A few days ago, Mourinho was not able to guarantee if Rooney will remain as a part of his team until May. You can read more about that here.
